A comparative study of the concept of self in early Buddhism and Hume’s ideas

INTRODUCTION The self is not only the most important philosophical pioMem but also to the other sphere of knowledge and daily life because man with himself every moment. Self plays the big role for man as the central source of happiness, unhappiness, pains, feelings etc through bodily ait-, mental acts and so on. In this way the self appears as the subjective cic or essence of his existence, that is, the knower, doer and agent of all mental activities. In other side this self is considered as the 'perceived* or the objective as the results of all activities. The concept of self has complex meaning became it hat been defined through different approaches which are further based on various norms and views. It is a unified being which is the source .n idiosyncratic consciousness and the agent whuh: to ....Ic - ■ thought and actions of an individual. Besides the wit .- - Ir ks vmi 'consciousness', 'mind', 'personality*, 'individual', 'identity* i: : : mlcnt being' or 'soul'. The word 'self is more comprehensive than o uhimx-m because it is included connotations at different levels of experience and also of the subjective identity which is important to 'experience*, consciousness relates to the experience and this experience links to the 'self. 'Experience' and 'self relate to something which is more than whel is happening in the brain, more than ordinary condition' d m re m transcendental states. Anyway we can divide the meaning of self into two main groups; one group holds that the s e lf is just the illusory mottos appears in the brain as reality but it is just the material component There nothing special in itself because it is the linguistic structure, when a nan pays attention to it, its scope of subjective meaning brings about its importance which man believes as something else from life ***- Aristotle believes that self or soul is the core essence of. being but ifgmd against its having a separate existence. He did not consider th some kind of separate, ghostly occupant of the body bu, the self or soul .
